Hello November

Monthly Bulletin

"The garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure, spiritual practice and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided."

—Thomas Moore

Greetings Friends!

We officially got our first bit of snow here in London, Ontario on November 1st - and I am NOT ready for it.

Thank you for subscribing to my monthly newsletter where I share all things wonderful about plants and gardens. If you wish to unsubscribe - you can do so anytime by clicking the button at the bottom of this bulletin.

What I've Learned Recently

  • I discovered a new plant I've never seen before! It is called "Lion's Mane" and I saw it at Whistling Gardens (one of my very favourite places in Ontario) when I was there on the last day they were open this year. How cool is this?!

  • I also found out that many bearded iris are double-bloomers meaning they put out a second bloom in the Fall. How did I now know this before???!
  • Thanks to one of my clients, I now know that you're supposed to cook elderberries before you eat them. Whoops!

What to do in Your Garden this Month

  • Christmas and Winter planters can be done-up later this month. I usually wait until after American Thanksgiving (Nov 23, 2023).
  • Keep the leaves! Many people rake up and dispose of their leaves - that's free lawn and garden fertilizer! You can use leaves to help insulate the crown of roses and tender perennials and you can mulch the leaves on your lawn with a mower and leave the bits directly on your lawn to help fee it over winter.

Important Garden and/or Plant-related News

  • Primroses are STILL BLOOMING in my garden! Incredible! My personal favourite primrose is the drumstick primrose which I have in my garden and I ordered it from Phoenix Perennials in B.C.

What's New & Exciting with Me?

  • I've been accepted into the "Employers of Choice" Training program through Landscape Ontario which I am VERY excited about!
  • Heemans Greenhouse has brought me back for another Winter Workshops Season! View their list of available workshops and book your spot before they sell out!
  • On November 23rd, I will be announcing the beta version of my online Garden Design CRASH COURSE and my subscribers will have first dibs! This discounted, beta version will only be open to 12 students. In exchange for the reduced price, these 12 students will work with me over the next few weeks (before the course gets officially launched at full price) to provide me with their opinions and feedback. Keep your eyes pealed for an email on November 23rd and let me know if you want on the wait list!

In 2022 it was "Progress not Perfection". In 2023 it was "Gratitude" and last year it was "Dare to be Different". THIS YEAR, I've chosen...
