A Message from YOUR Landscape Artist

Hello August!

Suddenly Summer...

What’s happening this month:

  • I am the workshop leader and adjudicator for the Minifest Theatre Festival in Embro this weekend. Come see the same play performed by 5 different theatre companies in 5 VERY different styles.
  • Rehearsals are underway for an original play I'm directing called "A Stork Club Story" coming to St.Thomas this November!
  • Plant Bingo is back at Anderson Craft Ales on August 13th TICKETS
  • Want to see me acting onstage? Come see Rail City Improv Aug 14th
  • Cultural City Fusion Festival August 15th at the Covent Garden Market
  • Landscape Ontario London Chapter Golf Tournament August 21st

What to do in the garden:

  • Harvest often to keep plants producing
  • Water deeply and less often. Water the base of the plants - not the leaves
  • Don't forget to water your trees ~ especially young ones
  • Take a look at what should be split/divided/reduced/moved come Fall
  • Leave the seedheads for the birds! Especially coneflowers & black eyed susans

Watch out for:

  • Spider Mites during hot, dry weather (ew gross!)
  • Powdery Mildew on Beebalm, Phlox & Squash. Improve airflow and avoid wetting leaves late in the day.
  • Tomato blight

Signs of Water Stress Not every drooping plant needs water.

Look for:

  • Wilting that continues into the evening
  • Dry soil 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) below the surface
  • Crispy leaf edges
  • Yellowing lower leaves
  • Premature leaf drop

If the soil is still moist, wait before watering again.

What's New & Exciting with Me

  • I attended a LONG overdue family reunion in Kingston
  • I attended a Competitive Advantage Masterclass for my business in Ottawa
  • I'm directing a play in November called "A Stork Club Story" and rehearsals are underway!
  • I am looking forward to being the workshop leader and adjudicator for this year's Minifest Festival in August!
  • I am currently in talks with a local television station about possibly bringing my podcast "Hops and Hedges" to TV!
  • Excited to be invited to Hort East in New Brunswick this November to speak at their conference!

Upcoming Events!

  • Our July Plant Bingo at Anderson's was a hit!
  • See you on August 13th back at Anderson's for our next Plant Bingo! TICKETS
